چکیده
This report deals with the use of a relatively new investigative technique (Doppler ultrasound) in the management of a case of early onset pre-eclampsia and discusses the benefit of this new technique over conventional methods of fetal monitoring.

I-46: Obstetrical Doppler
Accurate assessment of gestational age, fetal growth, and the detection of fetal and placental abnormalities are major benefits of sonography. Color Doppler can be used to assist in the identification of vascular architecture, detection of vascular pathology and visualization of blood flow changes associated with physiologic processes and disease states. The clinical applications of obstetrical...
متن کاملOutcome at school age following antenatal detection of absent or reversed end diastolic flow velocity in the umbilical artery.
AIM To determine whether fetal compromise, manifested by abnormalities of Doppler recordings of umbilical artery velocity waveforms in utero, is associated with neurodevelopmental or educational abnormalities at school age. METHODS A cohort of neonates born following high risk pregnancies had been previously identified for a study of the perinatal sequelae of absent (AEDFV) and reversed (REDF...
متن کاملHemodynamic Impact of Absent or Reverse End-Diastolic Flow in the Two Umbilical Arteries in Growth-Restricted Fetuses
OBJECTIVE To determine if bilateral absent or reverse end-diastolic (ARED) flow in the two umbilical arteries (UAs) at the perivesical (PVC) segment represents a more severe degree of hemodynamic compromise than unilateral ARED flow at the PVC segment in singleton pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). METHODS This was a prospective observational study. One hundred...
متن کاملSelective intrauterine growth restriction in monochorionic twins: pathophysiology, diagnostic approach and management dilemmas.
Selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR) in monochorionic twins is associated with a substantial increase in perinatal mortality and morbidity for both twins. Clinical evolution depends on the combination of the effects of placental insufficiency in the IUGR twin with inter-twin blood transfer through placental anastomoses. Classification of sIUGR into types according to the characteri...
متن کاملAbsent or reversed end diastolic flow velocity in the umbilical artery and necrotizing enterocolitis.
Absent or reversed end diastolic flow (AREDF) velocities in the umbilical artery were identified in 25 high risk pregnancies. In six pregnancies the fetus was abnormal and all but one of these ended in perinatal death. Of the 19 morphologically normal fetuses, three died in utero and there were four neonatal or infant deaths. The mortality rate was 48% for all pregnancies and 37% for those with...
